Episode 3: Lucy Shepherd

Friday May 30, 2025

Friday May 30, 2025

Lucy Shepherd goes where maps run out. A pioneering explorer, filmmaker, and writer, Lucy is driven by a commitment to reaching the truly uncharted - and to bringing those places back to life through film and the written word. Her work does more than document adventure; it inspires the next generation of scientists, explorers, and adventurers to look beyond the horizon and consider what might still be discovered. Lucy is also a passionate advocate for women in exploration, helping to open doors in a field that has for too long had too few of them. She is a much-valued member of the SES Council and was awarded the Society’s 2025 Plum Turner Pioneer with Purpose honorary award.

In this episode, Lucy joins SES Chair Peter Felix to talk about the places she's been, the stories she feels compelled to tell, and what drives her to keep seeking out the unknown.

Episode 2: Preet Chandi

Friday Mar 21, 2025

Friday Mar 21, 2025

Preet Chandi, known to many as Polar Preet, is a British physiotherapist and retired Army officer who has quietly rewritten the record books. In January 2023, she completed the longest solo unsupported one-way polar ski journey ever recorded, breaking not one but two Guinness World Records in the process - becoming the first person of any gender to hold that title outright. An SES Honorary Award winner and member of the SES Advisory Board, Preet's story is one of extraordinary determination: a first-generation British Asian woman who found her calling in some of the coldest, most unforgiving places on the planet.

In this episode, she joins SES Chair Peter Felix for a conversation about what it really takes to push beyond the edge of the possible - and why she's far from finished.

Episode 1: Rosie Stancer

Thursday Dec 19, 2024

Thursday Dec 19, 2024

Rosie Stancer is one of Britain's most formidable polar explorers - a woman who has spent decades pushing the boundaries of human endurance in some of the most hostile environments on Earth. From the All-Women North Pole Relay and the Millennium Women's South Pole Expedition, to solo speed records at both poles, Rosie has consistently redefined what is possible. Her expeditions span the globe: the frozen expanse of Lake Baikal, the remote sea ice of Broughton Island, the shifting sands of the Wahiba Desert, and the newly formed Aral Kum – one of the youngest deserts in the world. We are extremely proud to have Rosie as Chair of our Advisory Board.

In this episode, Rosie joins SES Chair Peter Felix for a conversation about the journeys, the setbacks, and the singular mindset that drives an explorer to keep going - long after most would turn back.
